Meet The Team

Catherine Salter - Physiotherapist

Catherine qualified as a physiotherapist from Brunel University, London in 1999, and initially completed her rotations at Stoke Mandeville hospital including the national spinal injuries unit and regional burns and plastics unit.

Since 2002 she has worked solely in the musculoskeletal field, initially within the NHS, but for the last 16 years in private practice in Central and West London. Catherine moved to Wiltshire in 2019, joining the Physiojo team in September 2020.

She has completed post graduate studies in Perth, Australia, with the MACP in the UK and has been teaching clinical Pilates (APPI) for the last five years, both for small groups and 1:1.

With her history as a gymnast and her keen interest in many sports (with a PE teaching husband and two sports mad boys), she enjoys the challenge of rehabilitating people to reach their full potential, with a combination of manual therapy and tailored exercise programmes. She is also currently completing a strength and conditioning course to enhance her rehabilitation skills and is looking forward to the future of physio and Pilates at Physiojo.

Jessica Craven-Francis - Physiotherapist

Jessica is a Chartered Physiotherapist, Western Medical Acupuncturist and Pilates Instructor.

She has always loved sport and through her own injuries as a teen, became interested in sports injuries. At college gained her first qualification in sports massage then left Bath for Cheltenham to study Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Gloucestershire.

After completing this, she moved to London and pursued a career in events and marketing in professional sports, working at Harlequins and Lords Cricket Ground.

After a few years in London, then working as a Pilates instructor for a few years, she moved to Eastbourne and studied to be a Physiotherapist at the University of Brighton.

After graduating, Jessica came home to Bath and went straight into the NHS working across many disciplines including rheumatology, community, various wards and MSK. From Bath she moved to Swindon in MSK and orthopaedics at BMI Wroughton, before coming back to the NHS and working with Somerset Partnership and then Wiltshire Health and Care in the MSK departments.

Jessica has always tried to keep her ties within sport and still occasionally works with Southampton FC Academy in Bath.

Jessica has a broad knowledge and skill set but her special interests are in teaching Pilates, sports injuries in the young and helping new mums get back into fitness following birth. She understands the frustration of injury after suffering a serious spinal injury herself a few years ago and having to rehab over nine months.

Katie Campbell - Sports Therapist

Katie is a Sports Therapist, having graduated with a First-Class Honours degree from The University of Bath. Katie has had several years of experience in treating a range of sporting injuries, offering pitch-side assistance and event support for a variety of sports in and around Wiltshire, including Chippenham, Westbury and Bath.

Treating and supporting GB athletes and premier rugby players has been very rewarding, whether the aim has been to get through the last game of the season or training towards the pinnacle of their career.

Through her time in private practice, Katie developed an interest in chronic pain, this led to the completion of a post graduate certificate in Strength and Conditioning, with the University of Gloucestershire. Katie particularly enjoys assessing and improving movement patterns to benefit the client, which has been seen to reduce chronic pain and irritability to the tissues. She has a particular interest in treating Tri-athletes, swimmers and strong wo/man competitors, breaking down the movement biomechanics can increase skill, strength and performance.

Along with massage and other hands-on therapeutic techniques, Katie uses her knowledge in gait analysis, advanced stretching, dry cupping and needling to treat her patients. As a past sufferer of migraines and chronic back pain, Katie also offers craniosacral therapy which has been of benefit to clients who prefer a gentler approach to treatment for back pain and headaches.

Teresa Syed, traditional acupuncturist

Teresa Syed, traditional acupuncturist, has been in practice for around 20 years. She has also taught and trained acupuncturists. From 2008-2014 she was part-time Senior Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor on the BSc Acupuncture degree course at one of Leeds leading universities. Following on from that she has ran professional development training courses for health practitioners (physiotherapists, osteopaths) using needling techniques within their field. She is a mentor-supervisor for acupuncture practitioners.

Teresa treats a broad range of conditions both physical, and mental-emotional and psychological. Traditional acupuncture’s medical model is quite different to the Western Medical one, which allows her as a practitioner to understand and treat the body in a different way. Teresa often finds that the fresh perspective and approach that traditional acupuncture offers, can be a catalyst for people and their healing journey.

Whilst traditional acupuncture is a clinical medicine it has a dimension and depth of understanding that is deeply rooted in its ancient tradition of understanding the body from observations of the natural world and how we resonate with that in terms of our bodily rhythms. It’s focus in on the person rather than the condition. It is both a science and an art, giving acupuncturists a great deal of scope in treating each and every individual with their unique complexities.

Against this background more people are also seeking natural ways to achieve best health and wellbeing. There is a growing awareness of how contemporary living can profoundly imbalance our bodies. Care for ourselves is an extension of care for the environment and vice-versa. Traditional acupuncture as a nature-based medicine, is a bridge to restoring equilibrium both within and without for those choosing to live more consciously; promoting a happier healthier lifestyle.

Teresa has a nurturing approach. She is keen to empower patients within the treatment process and for them to be aware of the choices and decisions that they can make for themselves in terms of promoting their good health and well-being.

As a kundalini yoga teacher, Teresa likes to integrate breath-work when treating certain conditions (e.g. anxiety, asthma) in her acupuncture sessions.
